Location
Adiga’s Beach Village homestay is located near the town of Koteshwar, Karnataka. Its a 5 minute drive from NH66 that connects Koteshwar to Udupi and is nestled in between small farms and other village styled homes.
Rooms
You enter a different world once you step into the courtyard of this old home. The homestay is a 90 year old traditional home, which has been refurbished and tastefully beautified. It still retains its old world charm as the layout hasn’t been compromised.
Thick columns support the beams and the door frames and windows are still old old wood. The split doors have a small link chain that can be used to fasten a lock. For us, this was simple, elegant and comfortable.
Rooms are simple and spartan with double beds, clean sheets and tower fans that help with the heat & humidity. The washrooms are modern, clean and if you need hot water, there is a wood fired boiler in the main courtyard.
Food & Dining
They serve simple and delicious home cooked local delicacies and over the few days that we stayed there, we ensured that we did full justice to the fare. The three standout dishes for us were mango chutney/sagu that was served with the puttu like rice cakes, cucumber sambar and the potato curry/sagu. Unfortunately they were unable to serve pathrode as it was not the season for the leaves.
There is not dining table as such and the food is served in the central courtyard, where you are expected to help yourself. You can sit on the platform and enjoy the meal under the stars.
Do note – Adiga’s homestay has a Veg only No Alcohol policy, which Mr Adiga makes very clear during the first interaction on phone.
Service & Hospitality
Most of your rational needs are met and you wont have to ask twice for anything. Do note that they do not provide bath towels and hence it would be best to carry your own. The Ladies who manage the homestay during daylight hours welcomed us with some piping hot filter coffee that hit the spot. The courtyard has a small platform where we spent a lot of time sipping coffee and stretching out.
Do note – No TV, No free Wi Fi but 4G Airtel network is available
Activities
The homestay has a volleyball court, badminton rackets, carom boards and ludo to keep oneself entertained. Beejadi beach is just a 10 minute walk from the homestay.
Overall
The homestay is the perfect place to soak in some simple, elegant old world charm while enjoying some healthy and clean veg food. Given the proximity to a very quiet and clean beach, this place would be the perfect place for a group of friends or large families to spend time together. Definitely recommend the place as it has great location, good service, tasty food and easy accessibility (can take an auto from the main road if you dont have your own vehicle).
