Saturday Sutting (Translation: Saturday Wanderings) is our attempt to get away from the monotony of daily life in search of some fresh air. A Saturday Sutting is all about day trips from Bangalore. Here is the first one of the series-

Shettihalli Church – A rosary church,in ruins, quite popular among bikers and local populace. It is a good place to visit during the summers as you can take your vehicle right up to the Church ruins, which makes for a great back drop for a  photo shoot.

Tip: Do go across the bridge to the other side for a different view of the church

Driving all the way to check out only a ruined church might just not appeal to a lot of folks, but here is the magic the church holds – Come rains, the church which seems to be on dry land, gets surrounded by water. There have been instances, during heavy rainfall when the church is submerged even! The contrast can be best seen when you visit before and after the rains.

Mavinkere Ranganatha Swamy Temple – located 14 km North of Holenarsipura, this temple is on a small hillock with some breathtaking views of windmills. We have been there a few times in the past 6 months and it is a different experience every time. Serene and calm – 2 words we would use to describe this place.

Tip: Don’t drive all the way to Holenarsipura. Take the right fork towards Agrahara just after you turn onto the Channarayapatna – Holenarsipura highway and enjoy the ride on SH121.

Added bonus: Do check out Sri Ramadevara Katte – a  check dam near the Mavinkere temple. Watch out for the Stay Simple Riverdale Resort board. You might find the gate to the dam closed, but honk a few times or holler and the security will  open it for you.
